there was just something about surfing in the afternoon that made J feel like he was at the top of the world. he could feel the drops of water from the ocean smash on his half-naked body. slowly he maneuvered his surfboard out of the tunnel of water and into the vast and quiet ocean.
bro was silently standing behind him with the average room he had left on the small board. the two were able to make their way back to the beach, thanks to the help of bro swaying the board forward with his tail and J with his hands. at their arrival, bro jumped off the board and J grabbed the purple surfboard off from the sandy beach and the duo walked away from the ocean.
"heh, the surf was pretty much average today. stated J. bro just yawned, but J could tell that he was thinking the same thing since bro was his pokemon companion from birth and they had a bond like no other. slowly they watched the waves crash back and forth on the beach and it seemed that things were going to be slow today. although J was a party animal he didn't really have any human friends to talk to, since bro was his only best friend he had in his life.
he knew that maybe he could go out friend searching, J wasn't anti-social but didn't think much about friendship besides bro. suddenly a shadow appeared in front of J, that was blocking the only sun he was getting and he wondered who would be at the beach at a time like this.

jakob raven had no idea what he was doing, only that he was following jax, his favorite creature in the entire world, and the only one who was by his side at all times. the only one he could trust. granted, it was a dog-like pokemon, Umbreon, that he put all his faith into, but he and Jax were connected, and there was nothing he liked more than being with the black and yellow pokemon, especially on days when he was bored out of his mind.
It wasn't like Jakob had anywhere to go to being with, but today was worse than the typical day. There was absolutely nothing to do, thus Jake let Jax do all the work, and followed behind the dark-type as if he knew exactly what Jax was thinking.
Well, technically, he did -- Jax was thinking of the beach; letting the waves crash down over his face, and the ocean wind blow through his fur. Jake had to agree with his companion, the beach was not a bad idea at all, and he found himself proud to be Jax's owner.
It wasn't until he got to the beach when Jake's mood turned brighter. There on the beach, he spotted a boy he knew. Alright, so he didn't know the guy all that well, only that he shared the same name as Jax, and he was quite anti-social, but then again, so was Jake.
"Hey!" Jake waved, shouting over the sound of the crashing waves. He walked through the sand, watching his Umbreon bound over towards the other boy's pokemon and sniffed it out. "How're the waves?" Jake asked, noticing the surf board laying on the sand next to the other boy. Needless to say, Jake was a bit curious, he'd never ridden a surf board before, and he was sure Jax would love to try it with him, though being the quiet teen he was, Jake wasn't exactly up for asking.
"Name's J, right?" he asked, hoping to not embarrass himself by saying the wrong name.

J turned around to see that the shadow was just a palm tree, and he couldn't believe how he didn't notice the shadow's shape. he was probably worrying about finding a friend that him and bro can hang out with. suddenly he heard a noise from afar but didn't notice where it was coming from.
J turned around in every direction and finally saw a guy heading towards his direction. he was wearing a jacket which was very strange but since its getting dark outside it does get cooler. a black pokemon was following him and slowbro helped J recognize it as umbreon.
"Hey" said J, as he was only responding to the introduction the guy gave him. J threw a smile towards the guy as he was kinda cute, but at the moment he was looking for a boyfriend but someone to hang out with. he heard the guy ask him how're the waves which was probably because he saw the surfboards lying next to him and bro.
"Name's J, right?" J was surprised since only the people he partied with called him that. and he never saw this guy at one of the parties. maybe that was beginning to become his nickname all over the island. bro gave a long yawn, which made J know that his best friend wanted a intro. "yeah the waves are kinda getting a bore, but if we wait a while they'll catch up. and yeah the name is J, this is my pokemon companion bro. so what's your name?" responded J. he wanted to know a little more about his new buddy.

Jakob stared down at the boy on the sand, watching the boy's companion pokemon, a Slowbro, yawn loudly. Beside him, Umbreon fidgeted in the sand, growling it's name under it's breath. Jake knew the dark-type wasn't a fan of being left out of conversation, so he reached down and ran his hand through the Umbreon's black fur. "I'm Jakob Raven, more commonly known as either Jake or Raven, and this, here, is my companion, Umbreon." he scratched his pokemon behind the ear and sat down in the sand alongside the other boy. "His name is Jax, though having seen you once or twice before, I'm pretty sure that's your name too, correct?" Jake asked. His voice was deadpan, and though he sounded quite bored, he was actually quite interested in getting to know the other guy. He'd heard about the other boy, but had never held a conversation with him save for now. "So, what exactly is it about the beach that is so interesting?" Jake asked, taking a handful of sand and letting it fall through his fingers, one eyebrow raised. Honestly, it seemed pretty silly, but as long as Jax* was enjoying himself, Jake was as well.

before J heard his new friend respond, the small black creature that was standing with him uttered the name umbreon which confirmed that bro was right about the pokemon species. When J and bro heard the name Jakob Raven they both smirked a bit, which was odd cause they did it at the exact same time. J thought the name raven was weird but didn't want to saw anything in front of jakob.
"so his name is jax also, wow thats kinda strange as you are right. my real name is jax arvada, but most people call me j. guess its a small world when you have the same name as a pokemon." exclaimed j. he was happy that he is learning more and more about his new friend jakob. he thought it would be difficult to meet a friend but it wasn't as hard as j thought.
suddenly when jakob mentioned what was so interesting about the beach. j shot up from off the ground and grabbed his surfboard while slowbro stood and uttered its name. he wondered why jakob would be at the beach if he didn't know what to do. "buddy, there are many things to do while you are at the beach. enjoy the nice sand, build castle, fly kites, and my favorite is surfing." said j.
then he got the idea that maybe it was time to teach jakob a few things about the beach. "alright jakob, after mentioning all the things at the beach you could do. what would you like to do first?" asked j as he was eager to teach his friend the life of the beach.

"so his name is jax also, wow thats kinda strange as you are right. my real name is jax arvada, but most people call me j. guess its a small world when you have the same name as a pokemon."
Yeah, Jake nodded in agreement, "Small world,"
Truthfully, Jakob was rather excited to have this Jax guy show him everything cool about the beach, but he wasn't really the kind of person to show emotion, thus looked completely deadpan when J got up with his proposition. Jake shrugged "Sure,"
The dark-type beside him, however, had a completely different attitude. The pokemon, who was normally calm and collected, seemed to be quite energized and ready for anything. Jax went over to J's slowbro and sniffed at it before deciding that the pink pokemon was nothing to be suspicious of. It couldn't hurt Jake if it tried. Not with Jax around to protect his human.
"alright jakob, after mentioning all the things at the beach you could do. what would you like to do first?"
Jake pondered, thinking of anything about the beach that would interest him. He turned to Jax, as it was the Umbreon who decided to lead him here, through two busses and a long walk, no less. Jake watched the Umbreon go off and dig in the sand, understanding his pokemon's actions immediately.
"I guess that means we're playing in the sand first." Jake said, his voice still as emotionless as ever. "Now, how do you build a proper sand castle?"

"I guess that means we're playing in the sand first."
J stood their smiling, he wanted to let his new friend jakob feel as comfortable as possible around him. he could tell that he wasn't much of a playful guy, but j wanted to at least show him the basics of having fun at the beach. you never know when you get bored around the house. the duo headed over to nice soft spot where the sand was firm and stiff.
"Now, how do you build a proper sand castle?"
"its quite simple really. i learned it from my father who was probably the best guy who could build sand castle's. said j, but he then felt that talking about his dad may bring back memories of when they used to play at the beach. things have changed and now that j moved out of the house he can do whatever he wants, when he wants to.
"you'll need to dig a small hole, deep enough so that you can find the water table and get the sand all wet and moist. next you will want to scoop sand into the center of the area." described j. since this was jakob's first time playing in the sand he though it would be better to show him first hand. slowbro could sense what j was thinking and knew what was coming next. "here jakob, i think it would be best if i showed you how it is done. if thats ok with you?" asked j as he extended a hand to his buddy.

"you'll need to dig a small hole, deep enough so that you can find the water table and get the sand all wet and moist. next you will want to scoop sand into the center of the area."
Jakob nodded. That sounded easy enough. He called Jax over with a wave of his hand and sat down next to the Umbreon in the sand. Jax dug with it's front paws, creating a small hole until it jumped back in shock when water hit its paws. Jake cracked a grin, though he, too, was quite surprised at how shallow they had to dig to reach water.
"here jakob, i think it would be best if i showed you how it is done. if thats ok with you?"
Jake nodded. Perhaps that was best. This was significantly more complex than he thought it would be, especially when the wet sand in his hand refused to do what he wanted it to. "Go for it,"
Jake eyed J's Slowbro, getting the feeling that the pokemon was a beast at the art of creating sand castles when Jake and Jax were, well, not. Jake leaned back, relaxing as he watched and waited for J and his pokemon to work their magic.
"So, is there some type of secret or something? Or is it just all... er, luck that the waves don't crash and hit the castle while you're building it?"

"So, is there some type of secret or something? Or is it just all... er, luck that the waves don't crash and hit the castle while you're building it?"
J knew that he had to explain a few things about where and how to build a sand castle so he could further help his buddy jakob. he grabbed a big pile of sand on the outside of the table and piled it up in the middle. bro used his move psychic to float the sand to the area and padded it down easily. guess with a pokemon that knows psychic its way easier than it should be.
"Oh well you want to build it far enough to were the waves won't hit it and the sand will be nice and moist. without either one your castle will fail." babbled j. he didn't want to go on talking about what you shouldn't do when building a castle. when j looked back at the castle he saw that it was almost finished being built. he gave a glare at slowbro for doing most of the work when he was trying to show jakob how to do it without help.
"sorry bout that jakob, guess when you have a pokemon that knows psychic things are much easier. i hope you don't mind." apologized j. since the sand castle building was done with he thought about what they could do next. but first he wanted to see what his buddy wants. "so what should we do next?"

Jake nodded as he listened to J and watched silently as J and Bro worked on the castle. Both he and Jax were fascinated as they watched the show. Jake's eyes must have been the size of saucers, completely enthralled as he watched. Jax, too, was wide-eyed and mesmerized.
"sorry bout that jakob, guess when you have a pokemon that knows psychic things are much easier. i hope you don't mind."
Somehow, J's words angered Jake. He'd spent such a long time training jax to be the best pokemon, with zero weaknesses, and just because Bro was a psychic type, didn't mean he was the only one with psychic powers.
"You know, you don't know the powers of a pokemon until you see them in battle," Jake stated. "Just because Jax isn't a psychic type like your Slowbro there, doesn't mean he can't learn psychic moves," Jake wanted to snap at the other boy, but as far as he was concerned, J was a friend, and he wasn't rude towards friends.
Instead, Jake decided that showing J that Jax was just as powerful as Bro was definitely a better plan. "Jax,"
The Umbreon turned away from the castle, his red eyes narrowed and ready for anything. If one looked close enough, perhaps they'd be able to see the smirk on the dark pokemon's face.
"Psychic attack,"
And with that, Jax's eyes glowed cyan as he used a strong psychic attack to raise a chunk of wet sand into the air and hurl it at J, missing him by only a few inches. Jake scowled, "Jax, play nice," he muttered into the Umbreon's fluffy black ear.
Jake turned back to the other boy with a satisfied smirk, "See?" he crossed his arms over his chest and smiled contently, "As for what to do next... I have no idea..." Jake sighed, realizing he wasn't the expert on beach-fun like his new friend here.

"You know, you don't know the powers of a pokemon until you see them in battle,"
when j heard these words come out of jakob's mouth this gave him the idea that he was just challenged to a pokemon battle. its been a really long time since he had a battle, since last time it almost killed him. but that was years ago and the trainer he fought was kinda the bully. j had enough trust within jakob to have him battle. bro could read j's mind and was absolutely fine battling the umbreon. he thought it would be a good chance for them to practice their skills.
"Just because Jax isn't a psychic type like your Slowbro there, doesn't mean he can't learn psychic moves,"
hmm, since j didn't know much about other pokemon rather than his slowbro. it would be good to learn the other types of pokemon besides water and psychic. although he was pretty sure that umbreon was a dark type pokemon, and was confused how it could use psychic. but after the small creature demonstrated its attack, he started to believe.
"As for what to do next... I have no idea..."
j crouched down towards bro and began to rub his back with his hand. he wanted to ease his friend up before they have a battle, which he hasn't mentioned to jakob yet. he wanted to make the question as dramatic as ever. j chuckled to himself as he was so silly. "well I do have an idea, but only if you trust me enough not to get hurt." sneered j. "how about a pokemon battle?"

"well I do have an idea, but only if you trust me enough not to get hurt. how about a pokemon battle?" the other boy sneered.
The word "battle" registered in Jake's mind the second he heard it, and he was hooked. There was nothing he liked better than a pokemon battle, especially against foes he'd never battled with before. Looking over at Jax, Jake knew the dark-type agreed. They hadn't battled in such a long time, it was perfect. The setting, too, excited the couple; they'd never battled on the sand before, and judging by J's Slowbro, he would have to assume the two of them had the upperhand.
There was just one problem. Jake knew of the bond that companion pokemon had with their trainers, and the pain it could cause a trainer if their pokemon was critically injured, having been injured more times than he could count in pokemon battles. Jake was wary, not wanting to hurt his new friend.
Wanting to merely shake it off and battle, Jake couldn't help but notice Bro's type advantage against Jax, "A Slowbro is a water/psychic pokemon," Jake stated obviously, "And Jax, here," he patted the top of his pokemon's head, to which the dark-type answered with a shrill call of it's name. "is a dark-type," Jake was careful not to sound arrogant as he explained his delema.
"Any psychic attacks Bro has will have zero effect on Jax; conversely, Jax could severely hurt Bro, and simultaniously, you as well." Jake ran his bottom lip through his teeth, unsure what J would say to his observations.
"I'll battle you, no problem, but you're the one who's going to lose," J had challenged him, after all, and trainers battled when challenged. There was no way Jake was going to back down, he just wanted to give the other boy a chance to say no if he was afraid of losing.

j waited patiently for his friend jakob to respond. he was eager to see if he would accept the challenge at hand. bro had closed his eyes which was a sign that he was gathering up his stamina so that he could battle. since the two were both of the lazy personality it took some time for them to prepare for something big. bro did this to gain some strength while j would sometimes breathe slowly which never really helped at all.
"A Slowbro is a water/psychic pokemon,"
shocked j and bro awoke from their trance, they took this comment as a challenge. that jakob didn't think they had the skill to beat him, so what if slowbro was a psychic type and jax was a dark type. they don't need any special psychic moves to beat up a little umbreon. frankly the two of them took this to offense, but they let it go cause they didn't want to cause too much of a ruckus or have it go too far where someone could get hurt.
"I'll battle you, no problem, but you're the one who's going to lose,"
this meant that the challenge was on and the battle was far from them losing. j backed up a few step so that way he could get a good distance away from jakob. just in case they clash too close and things get messy. bro was pumped for some reason, it seemed that he might hold a rivalry against the umbreon for calling it weak. "j, lets show these two how a surfer battles. they don't stand a chance." thought bro. j had never heard bro talk like this, guess umbreon had awakened the beast within his partner.
"if your ready jakob, then we will let you take the first chance." [/blockquote]

Jake wasn't sure if this was such a great idea. He exchanged looks with Jax, but the Umbreon was sold on battling. It's jet black body was trembling with excitement, and it's crimson eyes were narrowed with anticipation.
"if your ready jakob, then we will let you take the first chance."
Jake shrugged. "Alright, then," he sighed. While typically, Jake was an extraordinarily calm, quiet, and somewhat lazy person, and had previously looked quite bored by the beach, he was completely different in battle. His eyes were narrowed and his expression much more intense. Normally, Jake disliked battling anybody with a type-weakness against his Umbreon, but this was a challenge he'd be an idiot to pass up.
Jax had incredible defense and special defenese, so the chances of Bro knocking the dog-like pokemon out were slim to none unless the Slowbro had a type-advantage. Jake was pumped. His pokemon may have been small, but Umbreon was hard to defeat.
"Jax," Jake called his pokemon to his side, and the Umbreon happily ran over, ready to start the match. "Start with a quick attack," Jake ordered. Typically he would have used his mental connection with Jax to give his pokemon fighting commands, but this was no life or death situation, far from it, in fact, and Jake wasn't worried at all.
The Umbreon nodded and, with blinding speed, raced across the sand, finding zero trouble keeping its ballance as it ran atop the fluffy terrain. The dark-type circled around J and Bro and made to knock into the water/psychic-type from behind as hard as it could.
Jake smirked, "Fast, isn't he,"

with the response that jakob gave to j it was clear that the two of them were ready to start the battle. bro anticipated the umbreon would use its speed to try and defeat him, but of course j had a plan in case the dark type gets frisky. j loosened his body up, so that if the two do get hurt he will be prepared.
"Start with a quick attack,"
there it was the first move of the battle and boy was that umbreon fast. it easily ran around the battle field and j, but when the dark type decided to strike bro from behind they put their plan into action. "use it now bro" though j. quickly the bulky slowbro shot it hands to the side and a green shield covered the pokemon.
with a smile j chuckled as he was glad to have taught bro protect, it came useful in the many battles they had a while ago. seems like things don't ever change when you have a good solid battle. "guess umbreon wasn't fast enough, i hope you like'd our protect as much as we did. just to make sure that you don't try that trick anymore." exclaimed j, and without hesitation bro let down the shield and his right hand started to glow with an icy cold aura. bro striked the ground with all his might and moments later the field quickly turned from hot sand to an ice rink.
